Huan LI
Dr. Huan Li is a Senior Research Fellow at the HUN-REN Balaton Limnological Research Institute, where she heads the environmental informatics research direction. Her work combines multi-sensor satellite remote sensing with machine learning and cloud computing (Google Earth Engine) to reconstruct long-term, fine-scale dynamics of water temperature, chlorophyll-a, and hydrological parameters in freshwater systems. She has published 20+ first/last-author articles in top-decile journals (H-index: 17, 1,000+ citations), including Water Research, Remote Sensing of Environment, and Water Resources Research. Dr. Li has a proven record of mentoring early-career researchers, most notably guiding an undergraduate student to first-author publication in Geophysical Research Letters (D1). She has secured competitive funding as PI from the European Space Agency, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and international bilateral programs (Hungary–China, HUN-REN–NTU Singapore). Prior to her current position, she developed novel satellite altimetry algorithms for Antarctic sea ice at Peking University and pioneered geospatial big data mining applications at Tsinghua University. She serves as a reviewer for leading journals including Remote Sensing of Environment, Water Research, and Earth Science Reviews, and has contributed as a technical consultant to commercial geospatial ventures. Her current research focuses on building the satellite-derived, multi-parameter global water monitoring framework, with applications to climate change attribution and freshwater ecosystem management.
