Group visit schedule at BLKI:

The HUN-REN Balaton Limnological Research Institute considers science communication and providing accurate information to the public as an important task. We welcome groups interested in Lake Balaton and the research conducted at our institute. From early June 2024, we offer a refreshed range of programmes. Interested parties can choose from the following programme packages:

Available packages

1. Walking tour

Presentation of the institute and ongoing research using the display boards in the park, a visit to the exhibition room, accompanied by a non-researcher guide

Duration: 1 hour

Up to 30 persons: 40,000 HUF + VAT

30+ persons: 40,000 HUF + VAT, +2,000 HUF + VAT per additional person


2. Lecture

Presentation of the institute and ongoing research using the display boards in the park, a visit to the exhibition room. A 20-25 minute lecture in the lecture hall on a pre-arranged topic.
(e.g. algae, macroinvertebrates, fish, birds, the environmental status of Lake Balaton, pollution in the Lake Balaton catchment area, toxicology/neurophysiology topics)

Duration: 1.5-2 hours

Up to 30 persons: 80,000 HUF + VAT

30+ persons: 80,000 HUF + VAT, +4,000 HUF + VAT per additional person


3. Demonstration

Presentation of the institute and ongoing research using the display boards in the park, a visit to the exhibition room. Interactive practical/field demonstration
(on a pre-arranged topic: algae, macroinvertebrates, fish, toxicology/neurophysiology, etc.)

Duration: 1.5-2 hours

Up to 30 persons: 100,000 HUF + VAT

30+ persons: 100,000 HUF + VAT, +4,000 HUF + VAT per additional person


4. Double demonstration

Presentation of the institute and ongoing research using the display boards in the park, a visit to the exhibition room, two interactive practical/field demonstrations
(on a pre-arranged topic: algae, macroinvertebrates, fish, toxicology/neurophysiology, etc.)

Duration: 1.5-2 hours

Up to 30 persons: 180,000 HUF + VAT

30+ persons: 180,000 HUF + VAT, +4,000 HUF + VAT per additional person


5. Lecture and demonstration

Presentation of the institute and ongoing research using the display boards in the park, a visit to the exhibition room, a 20-25 minute lecture on a pre-arranged topic
(e.g. Lake Balaton algae, macroinvertebrates, fish, birds, the environmental status of Lake Balaton, pollution in the Lake Balaton catchment area). Interactive practical/field demonstration
(on a pre-arranged topic: algae, macroinvertebrates, fish, toxicology/neurophysiology, etc.)

Duration: 1.5-2 hours

Up to 30 persons: 160,000 HUF + VAT

30+ persons: 160,000 HUF + VAT, +4,000 HUF + VAT per additional person


6. Lecture and complex demonstration

A 20-25 minute lecture or lectures on a pre-arranged topic (e.g. Lake Balaton algae, macroinvertebrates, fish, birds, the environmental status of Lake Balaton, pollution in the Lake Balaton catchment area) Presentation of the institute's research and activities through interactive algae, aquatic plant, macroinvertebrate, fish, toxicology and/or neurophysiology sessions.

Duration: 4 hours

Up to 30 persons: 900,000 HUF + VAT

30+ persons: 900,000 HUF + VAT, +4,000 HUF + VAT per additional person

* The institute's management may grant discounts on a case-by-case basis.

  • Discounted visits for kindergarten and primary school groups are available by prior arrangement during April and May.
  • By prior arrangement, off-site lectures are also available.
  • We can only accept bookings in written form. Please contact the person responsible for group visits - dr. Peter Takacs (email: visit@blki.hu) - at least two weeks before your planned visit.
  • To facilitate the booking process, please include the following information in your email:
    • number and age group of visitors
    • name and tax number of the sending institution (we can only issue invoices to the previously provided address and tax number)
    • name of the desired programme package
    • for packages 2-3, the requested lecture or field demonstration topic
    • planned arrival date and time
    • parking requirements
    • specific requirements and other relevant information
  • The institute's Open Day, traditionally held on the first Friday of July between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, remains free to visit.
  • The next Open Day: 4 July 2025.
